64 students receive K.C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad this year at a total value of INR 335 lakhs


3 students awarded INR 10 lakh each; 61 awarded INR 5 lakh each


 

Mumbai, July 18, 2023: K. C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) today awarded a total of INR 335 lakh in scholarships to 64 meritorious students as part of the prestigious K. C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad. The late K. C. Mahindra established the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) in 1953. The K. C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad was the first scholarship to be set up by the Trust. It is an interest-free loan scholarship awarded to high-calibre students with outstanding academic and other achievements.


The top 3 K. C. Mahindra Fellows will be awarded interest-free loan scholarships at INR 10 lakhs each. The recipients are Ankit Namdev who will be pursuing his MBA at the University of Michigan, Siddharth UR who will be pursuing Design & Technology at Harvard University and Niharika Ohri who will be pursuing Development Studies also from Harvard University. The balance 61 students will be receiving INR 5 Lakh each to support their education abroad.


The Trust received a total of 2,285 applications this year. Of these, 90 candidates were shortlisted to attend the in-person interviews and 85 of them attended the interviews with an esteemed panel over two days. Due to the pandemic, the in-person interviews were held after a gap of three years, the previous one being held in 2019.


The selection panel included respected names - Bharat Doshi - Chairman, Mahindra Accelo Ltd., Dr. Indu Shahani – Founding President and Chancellor, ATLAS SkillTech University, Ranjan Pant – Management Consultant; Ulhas Yargop – Chairman, Bristlecone; Anuja Sharma – Board Member, Mahindra University; and Ashay Shah - Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra.


Speaking about the scholarship, Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group said, “Studying abroad enriches one’s outlook in life. We have always supported diligent and deserving students who have desired to go abroad for studies. Our intention through this scholarship is to ensure students in India believe that international education is accessible. We are proud of all the scholarship awardees who are committed to realizing their study abroad goals and breaking down barriers in education in India and overseas.”


The shortlisted candidates included 27 students who had graduated from the IITs, and the remaining were from other premier educational institutes including BITS Pilani, the National Law Schools, SRCC and St. Stephens. The candidates have secured admission to the highest-ranking universities and colleges overseas with 15 candidates having secured admission at Carnegie Mellon University, 12 at Harvard University, 12 at Stanford University, 4 at Columbia University, 6 at Georgia Tech, and 7 at Oxford University. The selected candidates from this year will be pursuing post-graduation studies in subjects ranging from Computer Science, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Robotics, MBA, Architecture, Arts and Design, Law, Public Policy, and Economics.

60 students awarded K.C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad this year at a total value of INR 315 lakhs


3 students receive INR 10 lakh each; 57 receive INR 5 lakh each

 

Mumbai, July 22, 2022: The K. C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) today awarded a total of INR 315 lakh as scholarship to 60 meritorious students as part of the prestigious K. C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad. Anjali Goyal, Jinang Shah, and Bhuvanyaa Vijay won the K C Mahindra Fellow award of INR 10 lakh each and 57 applicants won INR 5 Lakh each as scholarship to support their education journey.

 

From an impressive 1,982 applications received this year, 98 applicants were shortlisted to attend virtual interviews with an esteemed panel over two days.

 

The selection panel included some of the most distinguished and respected leaders of the country – Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group; Bharat Doshi, Chairman of Mahindra Intertrade Ltd.; M. M. Murugappan, Chairman of Carborundum Universal Limited; Kausalya Sreenivasan, Head Women Empowerment at Mahindra Group, Dr. Indu Shahani, President & Chancellor of ATLAS SkillTech University; Leena Labroo, Partner at Niana; Manoj Kumar, CEO of Naandi Foundation, Ranjan Pant, CEO Advisor, Global Strategy Management Consultant & Change Management Expert; Ulhas Yargop, Chairman of Bristlecone; Vikram Singh Mehta, Chairman of Center for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP); and Suman Mishra, CEO at Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited.

Anjali Goyal, Jinang Shah, and Bhuvanyaa Vijay, will be pursuing Business Management, Electrical Engineering and Law from New York University, Stanford University, and Harvard University respectively. The selected scholars will be pursuing post-graduation studies in subjects ranging from Computer Science, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Robotics, MBA, Architecture, Arts and Design, Law, Public Policy & Administration, Education, and Economics from top-tier institutions including Harvard University, Stanford University, New York University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, London School of Economics, Yale, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Michigan, University of California Berkely, University of Oxford, and University of Cambridge.

65 students awarded K.C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad


Virtual Interviews Held

 

July 12, 2021, Mumbai: The K. C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad was awarded to 65 students this year. Of the total 1812 applications, 106 candidates were shortlisted to attend the interviews held on
6th July, 2021.

 

The K. C. Mahindra Education Trust was established in 1953 to promote literacy and higher learning in the country. It has impacted the lives of more than 5,00,000 deserving and needy students through scholarships worth $103.5 million, livelihood training programmes, after-school tuition support and financial aid.

 

The K. C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad was the first scholarship to be set up by the Trust and has been awarded to more than 1500 students. The scholarships are interest-free loans awarded to deserving students since 1956. Several KCMET scholars are not only carrying out path-breaking research and teaching at reputed institutions but are also manning and leading national and international banking, commercial and financial institutions, multinational corporations, providing quality healthcare and legal services and entering sunrise industries such as IT, Biotechnology, Computing, including areas such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and robotics.

 

The 65 awardees hail from various cities across the country including Ahmedabad, Alappuzha, Anantapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamshala, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Gwalior, Guntur, Hathras, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Indore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Medchal, New Delhi, Patna, Pune, Udupi, Vadodara, and Varanasi.

 

The shortlisted candidates include 26 graduates from the IITs and the balance have graduated from other premier educational institutes including BITS Pilani, the National Law School of India, Lady Shri Ram College, St. Xavier’s College, St. Stephen’s College and Sir J.J. College of Architecture. The candidates have secured admission to the highest-ranking universities and colleges overseas including Harvard University, Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon University, University of California, Berkeley, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Pennsylvania, London Business School, London School of Economics, University of Oxford and University of Cambridge.

 

The top three scholars will get scholarships worth INR 8 lacs each and the rest will receive scholarships worth INR 4 lacs each. Aimed at enabling higher education for the brightest and best students in India, the total value of the scholarship awarded this year is Rs. 2.72 crores. The scholars will be pursuing post-graduation in subjects ranging from Computer Science, Engineering, MBA, Architecture, Design, Law, Public Policy, Education and Economics.

I am hoping to utilize the support provided by the Trust to the best of my abilities, in fulfilling my ambitions of studying, and taking forward my work in the areas of disability, law, and technology. Another awardee, Jigyasa Labroo, Dharamshala, on her way to the Harvard Graduate School of Education, said: “I'm honoured and grateful to be a KC Mahindra Fellow for the year 2021. The scholarship is a huge validation of my belief that more young people need to bring world-class expertise to solve India's problems, and will aid me in my journey to do so. Going to Harvard for me isn't about getting a degree, it's about creating opportunities for myself that would allow my work of creating safe spaces for children's voices to receive acceleration and support. The scholarship will go a long way in making sure that I do not lose out on a life-changing opportunity for the want of money.”

55 students awarded K.C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad;


Virtual Interviews Held

 

July 13, 2020, Mumbai: The K. C. Mahindra Education Trust, which was founded 65 years ago, today announced that it had awarded the K.C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad to 55 students after conducting interviews online, given the current situation related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

This interest-free, loan scholarship is awarded to deserving students to pursue post-graduate studies abroad in various fields, since 1956. In 2020, a total of 1,246 applications were received, and after a careful evaluation, 90 candidates were shortlisted to be interviewed by the selection committee comprising of 9 members.

 

Commenting on the scholarship program, Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group said, “The ongoing pandemic has significantly disrupted the higher education sector, which is a critical driver of a country’s economic future. Despite these unprecedented times, we were able to facilitate the programme for students through virtual interviews. I hope that each one of our scholars uses this unique opportunity to not only pursue their educational goals, but also creates a positive future impact on the communities in which they live and work.”

 

The shortlisted candidates included 23 graduates from the IITs, and the balance are alumni of other premier educational institutes including BITS Pilani, the National Law Schools, Lady Shri Ram College, St. Xavier’s College, St. Stephens and Sir JJ College of Architecture. The top 4 scholars will get a scholarship of INR 8 lacs each and the rest will receive a scholarship of INR 4 lacs each. The scholars will be pursuing their post-graduation in a wide range of subjects including Computer Science, Engineering, MBA, Architecture, Design, Law, Public Policy and Economics.

Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad. The top 3 scholars will get a scholarship of INR 8 lacs each and the rest will receive a scholarship of INR 4 lacs each. The tables turned at an evening reception where the candidates got an opportunity to ask the esteemed panellists questions as well as to network with each other. The Townhall session at this Reception was an enthusiastic and interactive one with candidates discussing the need of the hour being Skills Development (Technical, Digital, Liberal Arts Skills, as emphasized on by Anand Mahindra himself) and R&D for the youth to develop futuristic technology to preserve, conserve and grow at the same time by using renewable, recyclable and alternative resources of energy. What was noticeable was the energy and zeal of the evening after a long day of interviews, where the brightest minds shared their vision and ideas for the future of the country with the esteemed panel.

 

This year at the Townhall, we were also joined by Anuradha Mahindra – Trustee K.C. Mahindra Education Trust and Publisher and Editor of Verve Magazine.

July 17 2018, Mumbai: The K. C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) today announced that 82 candidates out of the 1066 applicants have received scholarships as a part of K. C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad. Aimed at enabling higher education for the brightest and best students in India, this year it has marked a 45% increase in awardees, leading to an increase in the value of the scholarships awarded to Rs. 2.92 crores. The shortlisted candidates included 23 students who had graduated from the IITs, and the balance were from other premier educational institutes including BITS Pilani, SRCC, the National Law Schools, Symbiosis, St. Xaviers, Sir JJ College of Architecture and NID. The candidates had secured admission to the highest-ranking universities overseas such as Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, Pennsylvania, Oxford, LSE & Cambridge. The scholars will be pursuing their post-graduation in subjects ranging from Computer Science, Engineering, MBA, Law, Public Policy and Economics.

 

Following the two days of intense interviews, Keshub Mahindra, Chairman - K. C. July 31, 2017, Mumbai - Jay Dedhia, Soundarya Balasubramani  and Mustafa Lokhandwala  were the top three awardees to receive the 2017 K.C. Mahindra  Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad. Jay Dedhia is going to study Mechanical Engineering at the Stanford University, USA; Soundarya Balasubramani, will head to study Management Science & Engineering at Columbia University, USA and Mustafa Lokhandwala plans to pursue Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of California, USA.

 

These three candidates will receive an interest free loan scholarship amount of Rs 8 lakh each. In addition, 56 candidates have been awarded an interest free loan scholarship of Rs. 4 lakh each. The applicants will be pursuing their post graduate studies in a variety  of subjects such as Computer Science, Engineering, MBA, Law and Economics, in various reputed universities that include Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon in the USA, the University of Cambridge, Oxford and London School of Business in the UK.

 

In its 61st year of this scholarship program, K. C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) received almost 1100 applications from students who have secured admissions to universities abroad. Following two days of intense interviews, Keshub Mahindra, Chairman – K. C. July 20, 2016, Mumbai: The K.C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) has announced the results of the 2016 K. C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad. Being the 60th year, this is a milestone for KCMET which has transformed the lives of over 170,000 students through its various initiatives. At inception, the very first scholarship was for Post Graduate Studies Abroad, which allowed students to pursue their dreams for a higher education overseas.

 

This year, K. C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) received 750 applications from students who have obtained admissions to top universities in the US, Canada, UK, France and Singapore. The candidates went through a rigorous selection process that culminated in 76 shortlisted candidates being interviewed by a panel of eminent leaders comprising of Keshub Mahindra, Chairman Emeritus, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, Bharat Doshi, Chairman, Mahindra Intertrade Ltd., and Ulhas Yargop, Group President (IT Sector), Group CTO, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

 

In addition the other jury members included Dr. Indu Shahani, Principal, H R College & Ex-Sheriff of Mumbai, Vikram Singh Mehta, Executive Chairman of Brookings India in New Delhi & an Independent Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd & many other companies like Colgate Palmolive, L&T & Vodafone India, Ireena Vittal, Advisor, (Business Building) & Expert (Indian Agriculture & Urban Change), Independent Director - Titan Industries Ltd and several blue chip companies, Ranjan Pant, a global strategy management consultant & founder of a Boutique Private Equity Advisory & Strategy Consulting firm that advises Chief Executive Officers from several of the twenty largest companies in India.

 

The top three candidates have been conferred the K.C. Mahindra Fellowship and will receive an interest free loan scholarship of Rs. 8 lakhs each. They have displayed exceptional academic ability with very promising future prospects. Fellows, Ayush Singhania plans to study Structural Engineering & Geomechanics in Stanford University, Trushna Khivsara is pursuing her MBA in The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and Aashiq Muhamad has secured admission in Stanford University to study Mechanical Engineering.

 

In addition to the 3 Fellows, 50 candidates will receive an interest free loan scholarship of Rs.4 lakhs each. The applicants will be pursuing their post-graduation in a number of subjects ranging from Computer Science, to Engineering, MBA, Law and Economics, in various reputed universities that include Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon and Yale in the USA, the University of Cambridge, and London School of Business in the UK and INSEAD in Singapore.

 

When asked, about the two days of intense interviews, Keshub Mahindra, Chairman – K. C. Mahindra Education Trust & Chairman Emeritus – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., says "You get a chance once a year to meet a group of young people, to see what kind of lives they have lived, to reach this level of hope, desire and dreams, and this energizes us."

 

At the end of interviewing candidates over two days, Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, said, "I am very impressed with the quality of candidates I met this year. We believe in providing opportunities to young Indians to build their own capabilities through higher education overseas, and eventually contribute to building our nation."
